Niches and aedicules
Niches, aedicules and fountains open along the walks like so many little scenes. Sheltering a statue or a basin, they measure out shade and surprise, in the Renaissance taste for the garden as theatre. One passes from full sun to half-light, from the noise of the city to the silence of the grove.
