Jean-Marc Lange

Premier Grand Prix de Rome in painting, 1965

Jean-Marc Lange wins the Premier Grand Prix de Rome in painting, 1965, and becomes a resident of the French Academy in Rome, at the Villa Medici.

The Roman stay took place under the direction of the painter Balthus, who was then restoring the villa and its gardens.

Jean Marc Lange, the youngest Premier Grand Prix de Rome, left from his years at the Villa Medici a whole body of painting — enclosed gardens, Roman terraces and the beaches of Ostia.
